The Places of Salt

The Cervia salt pan has a thousand-year history that goes back to the time when salt production was the main activity of the town’s inhabitants and the salt had great economic value so much so that it was called “white gold”. Here is a tour of the “places of salt” and in the development of our landscape with personal accounts of a relatively recent past which reaches to the 1960s. At this time, the salt pan and production are transformed following the evolution of time. Consequently, several buildings, areas and structures remain in part only in the historical memory of the town.
