Between Salt and Nature

Objectives

Delve into the historical-natural themes connected with Cervia and its salt pan, through the study of salt production, the importance of salt in the past and in the world; the environment of the Po Delta and the ecosystems with special reference to that of the salt pan; flora and fauna with observations and field trials.

The activity

Visit the MUSA salt museum and historical centre of Cervia: historical, economic and social information on the importance of salt in Cervia and the world, considerations on the salt production techniques, demonstration of the stages of the complete evaporitic cycle with the use of an “active model” which reproduces the Cervia salt pans; knowledge of the modern production techniques and comparison of old and new methods; the Cervia salt pans as natural oasis: “the silhouettes”, a study and reconstruction of the characteristic silhouettes of the birds of the salt pans and references between morphology and function, visual research of animal and plant species in nature found in the oasis and birdwatching.
